We believe that pottery is more than just a craft; it's a way to connect with the earth, express ourselves, and create objects of beauty and utility. We encourage you to actively participate in the Cowichan Clay Guild, share your ideas, and contribute to the vibrant community we're building together. We believe the best pots come from collaboration and inspiration, so please don't hesitate to get in touch.
3rd Annual Winter Gallery Show
The Art of Atmospheric Fire, 3rd annual winter gallery show, will have its opening reception on Saturday, November 21, from 1 to 3 pm at the Cowichan Valley Arts Council main gallery,
2687 James St, Duncan.
Admission is free, and light appetizers will be served.

Atmospheric firing lets the kiln itself take part in making the work. Wood ash melts into glaze as it lands on clay, and smoke seeps into porous clay as it smoulders overnight in sawdust and embers. The results are colours, textures, and surfaces that vary from piece to piece and can’t be reproduced. The collective’s artists work with wood firing, salt and soda firing, pit and smoke firing, obvara, and raku.
This year’s show features work by collective members alongside guest artist Jai Sallay-Carrington (they/them), a Vancouver-based figurative ceramic sculptor known for animal and human forms, many of them wood- and soda-fired.
Jai will be in Duncan November 22 to 24 for a series of events:
